Curriculum at Arise & Shine Junior School
At Arise & Shine Junior School, we provide a holistic education designed to nurture intellectual, physical, and social growth. Our curriculum is aligned with the Zimbabwean Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education standards, ensuring that learners receive a comprehensive, well-rounded education.
We offer classes from Early Childhood Development (ECD) A through to Grade 7, with a strong focus on both academic and co-curricular activities to prepare students for secondary education and beyond.
Early Childhood Development (ECD) – A & B
Our ECD program is designed to build a strong foundation for young learners aged 3 to 5 years. At this level, we focus on developing motor skills, social interaction, basic numeracy, and literacy through play-based learning.
Subjects Offered:
English Language: Basic language skills (listening, speaking, and simple sentence formation).
Mathematics: Introduction to numbers, counting, and simple shapes.
Social Studies: Understanding family, community, and environment.
Physical Education: Activities for motor skills and coordination.
Creative Arts: Drawing, coloring, and crafting to enhance creativity.
Grade 1 to 7 Curriculum
As students progress from Grade 1 to Grade 7, the curriculum deepens in complexity, focusing on core subjects and fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills. We follow the Zimbabwean national syllabus, which includes continuous assessment and the Grade 7 national examination.
Core Subjects:
English Language: Reading comprehension, grammar, creative writing, and oral communication.
Mathematics: Numbers, operations, geometry, measurements, data handling, and problem-solving.
Shona/Ndebele: Mother tongue language learning to enhance cultural heritage and language proficiency.
General Paper (Social Studies): Covers history, geography, environmental studies, and civic education.
Science & Technology: Basic scientific principles, environmental awareness, and the use of technology in daily life.
Religious and Moral Education (RME): Teaching values, ethics, and the significance of various religions in Zimbabwe.
Heritage Studies: Focuses on Zimbabwean history, culture, national symbols, and heritage conservation.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology): Introduction to basic computer skills, including typing, the internet, and digital literacy.
Visual and Performing Arts: Art, music, drama, and dance, allowing students to explore and express their creativity.

Netball: Builds coordination, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
Athletics: Includes track and field events such as running, long jump, and relay races, fostering physical fitness and a competitive spirit.
Tennis: Focuses on skill development, coordination, and discipline.
Cricket: Teaches focus, precision, and teamwork.
Swimming: An essential life skill, swimming lessons help students build confidence and physical strength.
Clubs and Societies:
Drama and Music Club: Students can showcase their talents in performing arts through drama productions and school choirs.
Debate and Public Speaking: Helps students develop communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills.
Chess Club: Enhances strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Environmental Club: Encourages students to engage with environmental issues and conservation efforts.
Assessment & Evaluation
Our assessment system consists of continuous evaluations throughout the year, along with termly tests and end-of-year exams. For Grade 7 students, we prepare them for the Zimbabwean National Grade 7 Exams, ensuring they are equipped to transition smoothly into secondary school.
